"There is not greater drama in human record than the sight of a few Christians, scorned or oppressed by a succession of emperors, bearing all trials with a fierce tenacity, multiplying quietly, building order while their enemies generated chaos, fighting the sword with the word, brutality with hope, and at last defeating the strongest state that history [Roman] has known. Caesar and Christ had met in the arena, and Christ had won."
"Hezekiah said this when he was reigniting the priesthood. He said 'Just stand, serve, minister, and burn in front of God, and get this whole nation turned around.' And he did it. He did it with a priesthood burning in front of God. You're made to burn. You're made to burn. Do you know that? You're not just made to hear other people burn, and see other people burn... YOU are made to burn. There's many of you, you've never felt the burn of the Lord.. in your spirit man. That spirit of burning, that place of standing before the Lord and burning with a scripture on your heart, and God's just enjoying you. He desires this."
"Spirit of God, I pray, begin to move on our hearts. Fan the flame! Tear off the stereotypes of priesthood...."
Then the worship team started playing this song:
Luke Wood - Heart After You
I wanna stand in Your counsel
Sit at Your table
Speak to You face to face
as a friend.
I wanna stand in Your fire
wherever Your eyes fall
may You find me faithful
to Your heart
And let me be found
with a heart after You
and may Your eyes find
this heart loyal to You
And may You be all that's on my mind
All of the time
And let my heart be torn in two
until Your will is mine
Dearly Beloved of my soul,
Of my soul!
Dearly Beloved of my soul,
Of my soul!
When speaking of the Fire In the Night Internship, Corey Russell said this:
I mean there is nothing bad that's going to happen in a season of giving yourself to this. There's no fears... The worst thing that's gonna happen is... [chuckles] ... you get desperate for Jesus and you get a real pain in your heart.
From his teaching Worship: A Clue to Meaning in Life (Part 2 of 2)
“You may find this hard to understand, and it’s sometimes almost awkward to say. You know something? I thought that when you get married, and you find the woman you love with all of your heart, that you would never be tempted again. I was wrong.
There is only one thing that I have found in my life that gives me the strength to honor my pledge to my wife whom I love dearly more than anyone else in this globe. There’s only one thing that’s given me the strength to know to not be greedy for the things of this world, and not to be proud even in a moment’s glory. It is when worship has bound every ability and anchored it in sacredness, and it is the greatest expression of your life and mind. Quickening of conscious by His holiness; nourishment of mind by His Truth; purifying of imagination by His beauty; opening of the heart to His love; submission of will to His purpose. All this gathered up in adoration of the greatest expressions of which we are capable.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is because of that deep conviction of worship, there are some movies I will never see, however good they may be. There are some books I will never crack open however greatly written they may be. There are some sites I will shut my eyes to and turn away from however alluring they may be. There are some desires that need to be stifled in their first instance however imaginative, and marvelous that trail may be. You back away because your life is bound by a sacred commitment to God and worship has pulled my life together, as I’m sure it has yours, when you bring emotion, will, conscience, everything under His care and under His control.
You see, I can bring this to an application in two options.
Application number one is this:
If you do not know how to worship Him in spirit and in truth, please hear me. Even God will disappoint you. Because you will end up using Him; you will end up not really coming on His terms. That’s why you’ve said you’ve sniffed at it and what a weariness it is. There’s a barrenness in our world today because people do not know how to worship.
The other application is very straightforward:
When you understand how worship binds, how worship bestows dignity to every human being, and how worship brings purpose, how worship gives sacredness so that you see those which will not take you into the profane, so that you don’t utter words that profane in themselves, that your life, your body, your mind, your goals, your ambitions, are all governed by this binding factor of worship, then you find out that worship is not a moment, it is not an hour, it is not a service. That is only a community expression when we come. You see God does not live in buildings, as he pointed out to Stephen. We do not go to the temple; we take the temples with us. He makes [us] His home. Once you understand the ramifications of this, then you understand that worship is coextensive with life. It is a moment-by-moment expression, not just in a momentary sense. It takes you every moment."
I like this quote a lot. I hope you do too!
- “You cannot worship without emotion… reverence… sacrifice… purity of heart (or motive).”
